To do justice to the rising number of enrolments, nearly 20 new institutions have been founded since 2016 alone. In December 2016, the decision was also taken to have private higher education institutions recognised for the first time. The teaching languages are – depending on the department – Arabic or French. Recently, efforts have been stepped up to also establish the English language at universities.
The possibility of attending academic studies or research at an Algerian university is subject to strict legal and administrative regulations. If you are seeking studies or research outside an existing German-Algerian university cooperation, this will have to be rigorously coordinated with the host Algerian institution.
